The BC Government has funded the implementation of the Northern BC Cancer Control Strategy which commenced in July 2008. The strategy’s flagship development will be the construction of a new $99.5 million cancer centre in Prince George, BC.  Construction will begin in 2009, with a completion goal of 2012. We are looking for accomplished Medical Oncologists to join us in Prince George, and contribute to the development of the northern cancer control program in Northern British Columbia.  You will be close to pristine wilderness, enjoy access to some of the most beautiful and desirable places in Canada, and have limitless options for the lifestyle you desire.

The BC Cancer Agency is renowned for its research and treatment for cancer, conducted at its five regional cancer centres of excellence in the Fraser Valley, Kelowna, Vancouver, Vancouver Island and Abbotsford.

A sixth centre, the BC Cancer Agency Centre for the North is scheduled to open in Prince George in 2012. The BC Cancer Agency’s regional cancer centres of excellence have excellent diagnostic imaging (including nuclear medicine, MRI and CT), pathology, research and surgical services.

Northern Health is responsible for the delivery of health care across Northern British Columbia, including acute care, mental health, public health, addictions plus home and community care services.  Northern Health covers almost two-thirds of British Columbia’s landscape, bordered by the Northwest and Yukon Territories to the north, the BC interior to the south, Alberta to the east, and Alaska and the Pacific Ocean to the west.

As a medical oncologist practicing through the BC Cancer Agency Centre for the North, you will be a member of the medical staff of Northern Health, with an appointment in the Department of Medicine. Northern Health is recognized for its leadership in the integration of primary care with specialist practice. Medical Oncologist Job Posting

The BC Cancer Agency Centre for the North is seeking a Medical Oncologist with sub-specialty training or clinical interest in a variety of solid tumours. Physicians with experience in anti-neoplastic drug development are also strongly urged to apply. As part of a BC Cancer Agency interdisciplinary cancer care medical team, you will participate exclusively in the treatment and support of Oncology patients, in outpatient and hospital settings.  You will also have the opportunity to participate in academic research, teaching, and the evaluation of standards of care. The BC Cancer Agency provides personalized patient care backed by the leading-edge resources of the BC Cancer Agency’s provincial program. Medical Oncologists report to the Head of Oncology within each centre as well as to the Systemic Therapy Provincial Program Leader (and Chief of Medical Oncology, UBC).

The successful applicant will possess a Certificate of Special Competence, or International equivalent, eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians & Surgeons of BC and the ability to meet all credentialing requirements of the Professional Advisory Committee of the BC Cancer Agency.
