The University of Northern British Columbia is one of Canada's best small universities. Established in 1994, UNBC has a core campus in Prince George and regional campuses throughout northern BC offering more than 60 academic programs including the Northern Medical Program which was launched in 2004.
UNBC aspires to be Canada’s premier small, research-intensive university, with internationally recognized academic and research programs that prepare its graduates in select areas of high relevance to our region, province, and beyond. Once again, the annual Maclean's magazine ranking of Canadian Universities for 2009 has confirmed that UNBC is the best small university in western Canada, and one of the best in Canada. As in other years, UNBC achieved the high ranking on the strength of its students, high quality faculty, research activity (number one in Canada) and its growing national reputation.

For its size, UNBC is among the most research-intensive universities in Canada and many faculty are international leaders in their fields. Much of UNBC’s research focuses on the social, economic, environmental, and cultural issues of the North.
